REPORTING ACCIDENTS

When you’re on the road always be prepared for the worst. Accident rates in the United States may not be as high in other parts of the world but they still happen at an alarming rate the presumption that your kid will not be involved in accidents is wishful at best.

From scratches, to bumper collisions, to more serious accidents, all of these are common in our course of lives. With the number of young drivers increasing on the roads it is becoming all the more important to have these youngsters insured to pay for damages to their car as well any possible damage to others cars.

One of the most important things to do when involved in an accident is to be honest about it. If you think you made a mistake while driving than talk to a lawyer or your parents and admit it. Litigation on traffic proceedings and tickets might be short but its certainly heavy on the pocket. Same is the case with accidents. If you have been involved in one then don’t think of making up a story to tell your parents. Be honest and tell them what really happened. If you're insured than there not much to worry about. Depending on your contract with the company damages to your car will certainly be covered for. You might feel a pinch with a raise in the premium but that to is dependant on the nature of the accident. What is most important is that you report the accident as it happened.

It is very common that while driving around with friends one of them might ask you to let them get behind the wheel. That is NEVER a good idea. Not only is that driver less responsible, at least about the car, but also is not covered by your insurance policy. Thus any accidents than happen will not be covered by the insurance plan you pay every month for. If the driver isn’t licensed than money wont be the only thing you have to worry about. Driving without a license is a crime and a negligent driving charge carries a hefty punishment with it.

So make sure than when you have an insured car you report all accidents that happen. Some of them are clearly not your fault and they will not result in an increase of the premium. At the same time you will get money for your car to be repaired. Also remember that letting your friends drive is also problematic and if they don’t have a license its also illegal.
